Beast

Beast is a boy group from South Korea. The group consists of six members, they were originally known as B2ST that stands for Boys to Search for Top. They changed their group name to BEAST (Boys of the East Standing Tall) just before their debut. Beast’s first mini-album Beast Is the B2ST was released on October 14, 2009 selling over 20,000 copies.

They made their live debut on KBS Music Bank singing their debut song, “Bad Girl”. They become more popular as they won their first award, Rookie of the Month which was awarded by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

They were also awarded with the “Best Newcomer Award” at the 19th Seoul Music Awards. Their second mini-album, “Shock of the New Era” was leaked on Youtube a day before it’s scheduled released. It still climbed up the Korean music charts despite its leakage.

Epik High – Indie Hip-Hop

Epik High is a popular Korean hip-hop group.

Their hit songs include “Fly”, “Day of Peace” and “Paris”. Hip-hop was not yet known in the music scene in Korea so was the beginning of their group’s career.

They became one of the most popular singing groups with the success of their third album. The three members of the group are all capable of writing their own lyrics and song arrangements. The members are Tablo, Mithra and DJ Tukutz.

On October 2009, the group is on hiatus. The group’s leader, DJ Tukutz left the group to begin mandatory military service. With the group’s status, the members namely: Tablo and Mithra went on to start on their own solo album. It was also announced on August 2010 that Mithra had enlisted in the military service.

Referred to as the “Queen Diva”, Lee Hyori, now 30, made a successful comeback this year to reclaim her throne.

But before becoming the Queen of K-pop, she was an adoring princess from the popular and now defunct all girl group “Fin.K.L.”.

“To My Boyfriend” was released as the second single from their first album Blue Rain. It became the first of their numerous number one hits.

At 2003, Hyori decided that it would be in her best interest to pursue a solo career away from her fellow girl group members and she released her first solo album “Stylish…E”. This was a breakout year for her and media also dubbed it as the “Year of the Hyori”. The first single was “10 Minutes” and the album sold more than 170,000 copies in South Korea.

By then it was clear that Hyori was the main attraction of the group and following a number of album releases and TV and commercial appearance, she has sort to take the global entertainment scene by appearing in programs outside of Korea.

Her latest album “H-Logic” was released on April of 2010. Her single “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” made it to #1 in the charts upon release, and the MV of the song received a lot of good reviews.

Since she started off with Fin.K.L., she has become the highest-paid female singer in South Korea. She’s back and will continue to reign the K-pop scene for years to come.

Name: Shin Soo Jin

Yozoh(요조) is an indie pop-folk artist from South Korea. She had collaborated with many Korean bands such as Sogyumo Acasia Band, Humming Urban Stereo, Serengeti and 015B. She released her album “My name is Yozoh” in late 2007. Three of her songs are included on iDate’s Songlist which can be heard at the Cafeteria (Chat Room#4), Pitapat Station (Chat Room #5) and Luxury Limou (Chat Room#8).

iDate Featured Artist – Kara

Kara is a K-Pop quintet that achieved success with its first number one single called “Honey”. Kara debuted in March of 2007. Their songs are great and their dance routines are impressive among all the other K-Pop groups. Kara’s music is so upbeat that you can’t help but feel happy! It just makes you want to get up and bust a move!

Park Gyuri
Park Gyu Ri is the lead girl of Kara. This former child actress and model is definitely destined to become an Asian superstar. Gyuri is also a Gemini and loves to call herself “goddess”.

Han Seungyeon
Han Seungyeon is quite a charmer and debuted in showbiz as a child actress in the Korean drama “Star in My Heart”.
She was also a pop columnist and VJ prior to joining Kara.

iDate Featured Artist – 2NE1

Chae Lee, Gong MinJi, Park Bom and Park Sandara – 4 pretty and talented girls that are slowly becoming K-POP icons in the international music scene.

2NE1 is a South Korean all-girls group formed in early 2009. The group was originally named “21″ but it was already being used by a Male Korean singer. Chae Lee, Gong MinJi and Park Bom were original first 3 members with Sandara joining later on.

2NE1 released their first song “Lollipop” in March 2009. The song was composed for LG to promote their new mobile phones. The song became a viral hit in the web especially in Asia.

In the second half of 2009, the group released two popular hits – I Don’t Care and Fire which are included on iDate’s song list. And on February 2010, they released a new single “Try to Copy Me”

2NE1 garnered awards from different music organizations at the end of 2009, a testament to the group’s talent and rise to fame.
